PEPPARA WILDLIFE SANCTUARY

Neyyar within handshaking distance from Kerala' Peppara Wildlife Sanctuary a part of agasthymala forests is in thiruvanathapuram district,lying contiguous to the western side of neyyar sanctuary. The sanctuary spreads over 53 sq.km, of forest area and includes peppara reservoir which spreads over 5.82 Sq.Km,area.it was declared as a sanctuary in 1983.The watwer supply to Thiruvanathapuram city and adjoinig sub-urban areas depend exclusivelyon the pernnial streams orginating from the rain forests of this sanctuary.

Location
The sanctuary is located between 8^0 34'and 8^0 41'N latitude and 77^014' E longitude and is contiguous with Kalakkadu-Muddanthurai Tiger Reserve of Tamilnadu and Neyyar Wildlife Sanctuary of Kerala.It is 50 km away from thiruvanathapuram.

PEPPAR DAM
Peppar dam was constructed across the river karamanayar in 1984.The reservoir which is the drinking water lifeline of Thiruvanathapuram city spreads over 5.82 sq.km.Even though the main purpose of the dam is to effect water supply to thiruvanathapuram city and subarban areas, the project has been modified to produce electricity also from 1996 onwords.
