NEYYAR WILDLIFE SANCTUARY

Neyyar within handshaking distance from Kerala' Neyyar Wildlife Santurary spreads over 128 Sq.km., of forest area forming the catchment of Neyyar Reservoir. It is in the southern tip of Kerala and has tremendous floral, faunal,ecological and geomorphic significance. The Sancturey was notified in 1953.The forests are home for elephants, wild buffaloes, wild boar, porcupines, tigers and a variety of snakes. A crocodile breeding centre and a lion safari park are also located close to the dam.

Location
The sancturary is a part of agasthya hills located between 8^o 17 and 8^53' N latitude and 77^0 17'E logitude.it is contiguous with the kalakkad-amundanthurai tiger Reserve in Tamilnadu.The sanctury is 30 km, away from thiruvanathapuram, the state capital.

Neyyar Dam
Neyyar within handshaking distance from Kerala's capital city of Thirvananthapuram is more known for the Neyyar Dam, which is a popular picnic sport with a sparkling, blue lake. Vistors to the dam site are so charmed by the lake that a boat cruise on the lake is inevitable. The other more interesting fact about the place, however, is that has some of the rarest medicinal herbs in the state. Neyyar Dam was constructed across the river Neyyar in 1964 for imigration purpose.the reservoir spreads over 8.5 sq.km area
