THE ECOTOURISM PACKAGES AND ELEPHANT SAFARI
Neyyar and Peppara Wildlife Sanctuaries form one of the sought after eco-tourism destinations of Southern Kerala.
The Crocodile Protection Centre, Lion Safari Park and Deer Rehabilitation Centre are the other major tourist attractions of Neyyar.
The beauty of wilderness coupled with the chance of sighting of wild animals along the banks of reservoir is in fact a feast to the eyes of the tourists on a boat ride through the reservoires.
Golden opportunities are open for nature loving and ecologically-conscious visitors to enjoy the scenic beauty and lush green vegetation of the sanctuaries.
One day, two days and three days guided treking programmes like Soft trekking, Hard treking and Adventurous trekking organized through eco development committees are functional and are available at the convenience of the visitors.
The packages include facilities such as trekking, boating, camping inside forests with food etc guided by experienced members of EDC, who can impart guidance as well as informations would be a rare kind of experience.
Overnight halts are arranged at specific camping sites located at Kombai, Meenmutty, Theerthakara and Pandipath well inside the sanctuaries as a part of different packages.
In addtion to the various trekking packages, nature trails are also maintained for the interested groups to explore the beauty of wilderness. The visitors have immense scope to watch birds and butterflies, to enjoy the scenic beauty of undulating forests of sanctuaries to observe the rare vegetation flourishing there and to have bath in the serene natural streams. Altogether one can go out with a refreshed mind and body.
Elephants, Guar, Sambarm Wild Boar and Water Birds are a common sight along the banks of the reservoir.
Neyyar is often in the limelight due to the presence of crocodiles(fresh water mugger), being one of the three natural habitats in Kerala.
In Peppara Wildlife Sanctuary the tourists can also visit the water falls at Bonnacord(Bonafalls) azhuvanthode and Karlakode. It will be a totally different experience while visiting different Kani settlements.The ideal time to visit these Sanctuaries are from October to January.
